What makes Kindermusik with Sarah different from other music classes?

With over 40 years of early years research and musical experience, Kindermusik classes are internationally trusted and recognised for their evidence-based curricula.

Parental involvement is a crucial aspect of all of our classes, making each class a special time for every family as well as a learning experience. We believe that you are your child’s best teacher and that the child-parent-educator triangle is fundamental to everything that we do.

Our small class sizes, musical expertise and amazing curricula are a winning combination to help you navigate your parenting journey and for your child to reach their full potential.

Do I have to be musical?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions! We believe that everyone is musical and that you are the best singer in the world to your child and enthusiasm is all that is needed. You do not need to have any musical knowledge as our educators will provide you with all the knowledge you need.

No attendee, adult or child, is forced to sing or participate if they do not feel comfortable though hopefully our encouraging, nurturing classes will give you and your child the confidence to participate in your own way.

At what age can my child join Kindermusik with Sarah?

Your child can join a Kindermusik class at any age between 6 weeks and 6 years.

What do Kindermusik classes involve?

Every Kindermusik class includes age-appropriate activities such as singing, instrument play, movement, and exploration for you and your child to do together.

We include musical routines that will become familiar to your child such as hello and goodbye songs but also provide new activities to stimulate and learn. The parent-child relationship is central to all of our classes and every class has an element of parental involvement to balance the needs of your child to socialise and work with other children too.

Can babies relate to music at such a young age?

Yes! There is numerous evidence to show that babies begin to hear sounds and music from within the womb so it is never too early!

Not only do babies hear and react to music, but music is also a fantastic parenting tool that can be used during those precious early weeks and months to soothe, comfort, energise and engage with your baby. It is also a proven antidote to post-natal depression for parents too.

Is the curriculum different for each age group?

Every child is different and every age group is different. Activities suitable for a non-moving baby, are not developmentally appropriate for a jumping 2-year-old! Our Kindermusik classes have different activities, different developmental focus, and even different music and instruments for every age group to help develop them in the right way at the right time.

What qualifications do the teachers have?

Foremost, all of our educators have a very strong background in music so that you can be confident that your child’s music class is taught by experienced musicians. Every educator has been through comprehensive training with Kindermusik International, focusing on musical pedagogy, early child development, and early years teaching. As part of this, they must pass a practical element of externally assessed taught classes as well as a vocal test – check out our Credly badge to find out more about the Kindermusik Accreditation process

Each year, Kindermusik educators worldwide must also complete a high level of continuing professional development so we never stop learning!

How long is a music class?

All of our classes for babies, toddlers, and preschool children are 45 minutes long. Our classes for school-aged children are an hour.

Where are Kindermusik classes held?

All of our classes are held in Earley, Reading (RG6 1NT).

How many children are in each music class?

Our absolute maximum number of children in a class is 12. However, preschool classes are limited to 8 students and school aged child classes are limited to 10 as these children usually attend for some of the class without their parents. Small classes allow our educators to really get to know your child and ensure progress is made. We also take pride in getting to know our parents and siblings too and value our Kindermusik community so relish smaller, personal classes.

Do classes just run during term time?

Our regular classes run only during term time but we offer ad-hoc classes or special events during the Christmas, Easter and summer school holidays which families can sign up to. Some of these activities are free for regular families such as the Christmas parties.

Can I try a music class before I sign up for a full term?

Kindermusik with Sarah offers introductory classes before you sign up for classes. For baby, toddler, and preschool classes, you are invited to an introductory class in-person or via Zoom before signing up on a monthly basis. For school-aged child classes, special demo sessions are normally held in the summer term for prospective students or you may be invited along to a class for a trial.

Do I have to pay a term in advance?

We offer monthly payments for all our classes. For babies, toddler and preschool classes, you will be charged monthly during school term time on an on-going basis but for school aged child classes, you will pay a deposit upfront and then can opt to pay the balance for the 15 week Semester at your first class or spread the remaining cost monthly.

Can I bring a sibling or grandparent to your music classes?

Younger siblings are very welcome to come along to classes but due to our desire to keep class numbers small and personal, they will count towards our class numbers. We do make a charge for younger siblings to attend over 6 months old and provide age appropriate instruments and activity adaptations for them. Older siblings and additional adults are welcome on an ad-hoc basis but we do request that you inform us in advance of the class due to limited space.

What if I can’t make my usual class?

We offer unlimited make-up classes to families if they have to miss a class, although these are subject to availability. Make-up classes can be booked easily up to a week in advance on our online system

Every family is also provided with online music and activity ideas to use at home during the week so if you cannot make a class, you can create your own class at home!
